GPU/AI Application System Software Engineer Intern (System Technologies and Engineering) - 2027 Summer
ByteDanceResponsibilities
- Design and implement performance benchmarks and testing methodologies for OS, OS kernel, and hardware-system performance.
- Develop benchmark tools and optimize AI workloads for large-scale LLM training and inference and high-performance computing.
- Develop Python scripts to automate testing of benchmark tools.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify system bottlenecks, debug issues, and improve performance.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related major.
- Demonstrated understanding of operating systems, Linux kernels, and computer architecture.
- Background in GPU/CPU benchmarking and hands-on experience with Linux-based systems.
- Familiarity with machine learning/deep learning techniques, algorithms, and frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Exposure to application testing automation.
- Preferred: background in high-performance computing, ML hardware acceleration such as GPU, TPU, or RDMA, ML for systems, or distributed storage.
- Preferred: experience developing, training, evaluating, and deploying AI models on cloud, cluster, or on-premises environments.
- Preferred: parallel programming experience and familiarity with a communication runtime such as MPI, NCCL, UCX, or NVSHMEM.
- Preferred: Linux kernel development experience, including networking or device drivers, and complex system-level debugging experience.
