Staff Backend Product Engineer (SlackBot)

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend and frontend engineers to conceptualize and build high-impact Slackbot features.
- Build and improve systems that help Slackbot find and surface relevant information across connected sources.
- Design, build, and own scalable, highly performant systems and APIs tailored to user needs.
- Own team features or core systems, define their long-term health and roadmap, and improve surrounding integrations.
- Assist support and operations teams with triaging and resolving complex production issues.
- Mentor engineers, conduct thoughtful code reviews, and improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
- Contribute to technical architecture discussions and drive critical technical decisions across teams.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience building and shipping web applications with a backend focus.
- Experience with functional or imperative programming languages such as PHP, Python, Java, Ruby, Go, or C.
- PHP/Hack, Java, MySQL, and Linux experience is a strong plus, with familiarity with other web languages and relational databases accepted as a substitute.
- Experience with search infrastructure, large-scale APIs, or AI-powered systems is highly desirable.
- Ability to contribute significantly to technical architecture discussions and drive critical technical decisions across teams.
- Track record of writing understandable, testable, maintainable code.
- Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, programming languages, distributed systems, and information retrieval.
- Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
