Responsibilities
- Own the technical vision and system architecture for machine learning workflows supporting Depo Copilot, Depo Summaries, and Meetings and Notetaking.
- Architect and build grounded LLM pipelines for extensive case files and real-time transcripts.
- Evaluate and implement appropriate model strategies, including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and trained models.
- Create generative AI evaluation frameworks, datasets, rubrics, offline metrics, and release checks with legal experts and annotators.
- Optimize real-time streaming pipelines for latency, efficiency, reliability, and operational cost.
- Productionize prototypes with typed contracts, test coverage, tracing, observability, and fault tolerance.
- Lead technical incident response during live proceedings and author design documents and architecture decisions.
- Partner with Product, product engineering, speech recognition, and document retrieval teams on technical plans.
- Mentor machine learning engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and design feedback.
- Communicate technical outcomes and tradeoffs to business stakeholders.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience building production ML or software systems, including at least 3 years in machine learning roles with end-to-end project ownership.
- Demonstrated technical leadership through design reviews, architectural direction, and engineer mentorship.
- Strong NLP and production LLM experience covering retrieval and grounding, long-context reasoning, structured outputs, evaluation, and failure-mode mitigation.
- Experience designing generative AI evaluation frameworks with datasets and rubrics developed alongside domain experts and annotators.
- Strong software engineering foundations in API design, data modeling, distributed and asynchronous workflows, testing, and fault tolerance.
- Advanced Python proficiency and hands-on experience with PyTorch or other deep learning frameworks.
- Experience with real-time or streaming systems or legal-domain NLP is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal English communication, collaboration, and autonomous problem-solving skills.
- Ability to periodically work from the Prague or Bratislava office.
- Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to Czechia or Slovakia and have legal authorization to work there.
