Senior Software Engineer, R2 Metadata
CloudflareResponsibilities
- Design and implement features in R2’s distributed metadata system for object put, get, list, and delete operations.
- Build and operate production services on Cloudflare Workers and Kubernetes with strong consistency, durability, and throughput requirements.
- Own schemas, data models, indexing strategies, and query patterns across distributed database clusters managing billions of objects.
- Deliver projects end to end from design documentation and schema changes through implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
- Participate in on-call rotations, lead incident resolution, and write reliability-improving postmortems.
- Use AI tools extensively for development, debugging, and operational work.
- Collaborate with storage infrastructure, networking, and platform teams on capacity planning, API contracts, and cross-team initiatives.
Requirements
- Strong programming skills in TypeScript, Go, or similar languages.
- Experience with distributed databases, including schema design, query optimization, indexing, and consistency/performance tradeoffs.
- Experience building or operating large-scale distributed systems with strong reliability requirements.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts such as object storage, edge computing, or service-oriented architectures.
- Understanding of monitoring, alerting, performance tuning, observability, and incident response practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining technical decisions and coordinating across teams.
- Comfort using AI coding tools as part of a daily development workflow.
- Experience with Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects, or edge computing platforms is preferred.
