Base Salary
$281k - $356k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural design and technical strategy for Waymo’s core data platforms, including commercialization data lakes and metrics portability and standardization for driver evaluations.
- Establish and enforce data governance frameworks that improve data discoverability and quality.
- Identify data development lifecycle inefficiencies and improve developer productivity, workflows, and data engineering effectiveness.
- Collaborate with Simulation, Onboard, Machine Learning, and Commercialization teams to define data needs, data contracts, and technical solutions.
- Mentor senior engineers, guide critical technical decisions, and promote reliability, efficiency, developer experience, and innovation in data engineering.
Requirements
- Proven experience setting technical vision, driving multi-quarter roadmaps, and delivering impactful data projects for senior engineering teams.
- Ability to influence across organizational boundaries and communicate complex technical designs and trade-offs to technical and business stakeholders.
- Extensive experience architecting, building, and operating large-scale distributed data systems such as data lakes, lakehouses, data meshes, streaming platforms, and query engines.
- Deep expertise in data governance, metadata systems, data lineage, data quality frameworks, and data discoverability at scale.
- Strong experience designing and evolving data-centric APIs, schemas, and data contracts.
- Expertise in data pipeline and query engine development.
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one of C++, Java, or Python.
- Familiarity with autonomous vehicle operations, logistics, or ride-hailing data is preferred.
- Experience with Google data infrastructure and tools such as F1 Query, Napa, Flume, Plx, BigQuery, or Cloud Dataflow is preferred.
