Responsibilities
- Define and own QA test strategies, test plans, and evidence-based release criteria for software, firmware, and hardware product lines.
- Design, code, review, and maintain automated test suites, simulators, and frameworks for regression, functional, integration, and system testing.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines with repeatable quality gates and actionable failure diagnostics.
- Investigate complex software and firmware defects through reproducible test cases, debug output, stack traces, production-code inspection, and root-cause analysis.
- Validate bug fixes and provide evidence-based release-readiness recommendations and QA sign-off.
- Assess, mentor, and coach QA team members and advise the QA Director on staffing and role changes.
- Evaluate user interface and user experience implementations and provide structured development feedback.
- Own test-result reporting, quality metrics, release documentation, requirements traceability, and auditable release evidence.
- Perform laboratory and field testing to validate system performance against requirements.
- Track automation coverage, escaped defects, test flake rate, detection and resolution time, and release readiness to prioritize improvements.
- Lead execution and continuous refinement of the production test QA process.
Requirements
- United States citizenship is required.
- At least 7 years of combined software development and QA/software test engineering experience, including at least 3 years focused on quality or testing and experience at a senior or technical-lead level.
- BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Hands-on software development foundation with experience designing, coding, debugging, and shipping production software.
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining test automation frameworks such as Selenium, Appium, pytest, TestNG, or Robot Framework.
- Strong proficiency in at least one of Python, Java, C#, C++, or Go, including the ability to debug production code and build test automation, simulators, and internal tooling.
- Experience integrating automated testing into pipelines such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
- Experience with API testing and tools such as Postman or REST Assured.
- Strong knowledge of the software development lifecycle and Agile/Scrum methodology.
- Experience testing Android, Windows, embedded or firmware systems, cloud computing environments, and laptop, handheld, or tablet hardware.
- Ability to assess, mentor, and improve the performance and capability of junior and mid-level QA engineers.
- Experience testing embedded systems, firmware, or hardware in defense, industrial, or aerospace contexts is preferred.
- Familiarity with TestRail, Zephyr, or Jira is preferred.
- Experience with performance, load, or stress testing tools and methodology is preferred.
- Working knowledge of security testing principles and secure coding practices is preferred.
- Experience improving QA processes, automation frameworks, and team practices for a new or developing product line is preferred.
- An active or previously held security clearance is preferred.
- Strong work ethic, curiosity, tenacity, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and willingness to mentor and provide candid feedback are expected.
