- Develop and document Taptic Engine firmware for prototype hardware, custom silicon, and production systems.
- Bring up proof-of-concept prototypes and demos to help design teams explore and evaluate new interactions.
- Architect low-latency, end-to-end haptics solutions using touch and force sensors.
- Collect requirements, construct block diagrams, and review hardware schematics.
- Define communication protocols, operating modes, and feature requirements with software driver teams.
- Integrate actuator control algorithms with tight real-time requirements using DSP concepts.
- Work with factory teams on test and calibration requirements.
- Bench-test firmware for performance, power, and thermal requirements.
- Debug and root-cause firmware issues with QA to deliver robust production software.
- Create test frameworks and use AI-powered development tools to improve coding, debugging, code quality, and testing workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical or computer engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Expertise in C or C++ for embedded systems.
- Experience interfacing microcontrollers with sensors and actuators such as LRA, VCA, or Piezo devices.
- Knowledge of embedded peripherals and protocols including DMA, USB, UART, SPI, and I2C.
- Ability to apply software best practices in bare-metal or RTOS environments.
- Board bring-up and debugging experience using JTAG, mixed-signal oscilloscopes, and/or logic analyzers.
- Preferred: master’s degree with advanced coursework in embedded systems, controls, and/or signal processing.
- Preferred: knowledge of closed-loop control systems and experience implementing low-level control algorithms in embedded environments.
- Preferred: production DSP or FPGA firmware development experience for haptic or audio applications.
