Responsibilities
- Develop software to configure, control, and monitor components of the TCDS system.
- Design and develop software for FPGA-based electronics platforms with close interaction with hardware.
- Contribute to DAQ test-system setup and operation and participate in system testing at increasing scales.
- Maintain and improve software repositories and CI/CD infrastructure.
- Contribute to installation and commissioning of the Phase-2 DAQ system between 2027 and 2029.
- Provide support to the CMS community for commissioning sub-detector data acquisition components.
- Gather requirements, produce technical documentation, and present design options, work plans, and status reports.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Python and modern C++.
- Experience designing and developing complex applications, including user-facing and REST-based interfaces.
- Experience with system programming and interaction with computer hardware.
- Experience developing software collaboratively and using CI/CD practices.
- Practical web UI development experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and related modern frameworks.
- Professional background in Software Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- A Master's degree with 2–6 years of post-graduation professional experience, or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- Familiarity with firmware development using VHDL or Verilog is an asset.
- Exposure to data acquisition systems in modern high-energy physics experiments is an asset.
- Eligibility as a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and no prior CERN fellow or graduate contract.
- Fluency in spoken and written English and commitment to learn French.
