Responsibilities
- Define precise, computable control-quality metrics for smoothness, latency, tracking error, accuracy, and related measures.
- Build pipelines that compute metrics from recorded robot data, simulation runs, and live telemetry, with versioned and comparable definitions.
- Develop deterministic automated test harnesses for control releases and integrate evaluation into CI across simulation and hardware-in-the-loop.
- Create tooling for side-by-side comparison of controller variants and releases.
- Build per-robot and fleet-level test suites that can be run by other teams without controls support.
- Track control quality, drift, per-robot variation, and degradation over time, including dashboards for control health.
- Instrument real-time control code and support quality gates and release management for safety-relevant software.
Requirements
- Experience with robotics on real systems, including robot data, timing, synchronization, and hardware experiment failure modes.
- Strong Python programming skills and enough modern C++ to work confidently in a real-time control codebase.
- Experience building test automation, evaluation frameworks, or benchmarking infrastructure for complex systems and driving adoption by other engineers.
- Sound measurement and data-analysis judgment covering sampling, noise, statistical significance, and run-to-run comparison.
- Experience with ROS or ROS2, message recording and replay, time synchronization, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based workflows.
- Preferred: familiarity with robot kinematics, dynamics, or control systems.
- Preferred: experience with hardware-in-the-loop test rigs, physical regression testing, or physics simulation environments such as MuJoCo, Isaac Sim, or Isaac Lab.
- Preferred: experience operating fleets of robots or other distributed physical devices.
- Preferred: data engineering experience involving pipeline orchestration, time-series databases, or large-scale log processing.
- Preferred: release management or quality gates for safety-relevant software.
