Responsibilities
- Define the technical direction, architecture, and engineering strategy for Rocket Pay’s core payment platform domains.
- Design, operate, and improve large-scale distributed backend systems supporting payment processing, wallet services, merchant onboarding, settlement, reconciliation, risk controls, and financial reporting.
- Own system reliability, scalability, security, performance, and data consistency end to end.
- Lead technical decisions, architecture and design reviews, and improvements to complex services or domains.
- Structure ambiguous problems and translate customer and business requirements into well-architected technical solutions.
- Respond to incidents, improve monitoring and SLAs, and support operational excellence in high-traffic environments.
- Mentor engineers and influence technical direction across the organization through sound judgment and system design.
Requirements
- At least 12 years of backend engineering experience.
- Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems using Java or Kotlin and the Spring Framework.
- Experience owning and proactively improving one or more complex services or domains.
- Ability to design systems with strong consideration for performance, reliability, data consistency, and security.
- Experience making technical decisions that produced tangible business impact from ambiguous problems.
- Ability to understand customer and business requirements and translate them into technical solutions with strong ownership.
- Preferred experience leading architecture design and migration in JPA- and MSA-based environments.
- Preferred payment or fintech development and operations experience.
- Preferred experience with incident response, monitoring systems, and SLA improvement in high-traffic environments.
- Preferred experience processing large-scale data with strong settlement and reconciliation accuracy guarantees.
- Preferred technical leadership experience in agile software development environments and influencing other engineers through technical judgment and system design.
