Base Salary
$145k - $170k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own and operate the Apigee X platform, including API proxies, shared flows, policies, environments, deployments, and platform administration.
- Document gateway architecture, standards, runbooks, proxy structures, naming, versioning, deprecation, error handling, and reusable shared flows.
- Manage DNS, certificates, TLS, and environment configuration in partnership with Infrastructure and Network teams.
- Implement OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT validation, mTLS, quota, spike arrest, and threat-protection controls.
- Define API risk tiers and approval gates in a regulated environment and support audits and examinations.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and promotion gates for gateway proxy and policy artifacts.
- Monitor gateway health and API performance, define SLOs and alerts, maintain runbooks, and lead root-cause analysis for incidents.
- Onboard consuming teams and advise them on API design.
- Route LLM API traffic through the gateway with provider abstraction, failover, authentication, rate limiting, and logging.
- Apply AI safety controls such as prompt-injection defense, PII detection and redaction, and response filtering.
- Establish governed patterns for exposing MCP servers and tools to internal agents.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- At least 5 years of enterprise API architecture or engineering experience, including hands-on ownership of an enterprise API gateway.
- Hands-on experience with Apigee X or Edge, or an equivalent platform, including building proxies, shared flows, and policies and modifying policy XML and JavaScript.
- Production LLM API integration experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, Vertex AI, AWS Bedrock, or similar services.
- Deep API security experience with OAuth 2.0, OIDC, mTLS, JWT, and delegated-access patterns for AI agents.
- Google Cloud experience including IAM, VPC, and services supporting Apigee X.
- Experience in financial services or another regulated industry.
- Preferred experience with MCP server design and governance and Model Armor or comparable AI safety controls.
- Preferred experience with CI/CD and Terraform for gateway artifacts.
- Preferred proficiency with Python, Java, or Node.js.
- Apigee or Google Cloud certification is preferred.
- Familiarity with GLBA and model risk guidance SR 11-7 as applied to AI is preferred.
