Base Salary
$218k - $271k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the technical vision and architecture for the Trust Service, including the Trust Graph data model, API surface, query and write patterns, and operational characteristics.
- Own REST API contracts and inspection data models, including versioning, backward compatibility, and safe introduction of new inspection types and identity providers.
- Lead complex cross-team technical initiatives and align Identity, Authentication, Fraud, Workflow, Platform, and Compliance teams on shared data model and API decisions.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and architectural guidance.
- Own production availability and correctness while leading work on observability, alert hygiene, query performance, capacity planning, and incident response.
- Provide technical input to roadmaps and advocate for investments in reliability, API ergonomics, data model flexibility, and developer experience.
- Ensure the service meets security and compliance requirements for a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2/AAL2 credentialing system.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating high-availability, correctness-critical backend services.
- Ability to lead complex, cross-team technical initiatives from definition through delivery with minimal oversight.
- Deep experience with relational databases, including schema design, complex queries, query-performance analysis, and safe production schema evolution.
- Experience designing and versioning REST APIs and owning contracts used by downstream services and SDKs.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tooling such as Claude Code or Cursor.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience influencing engineering, product, and security stakeholders.
- Deep experience with Java or another JVM language and modern language features in production systems.
- Familiarity with graph or highly relational data models, entity relationships, traversal patterns, and large-scale read/write tradeoffs.
- Understanding of identity trust decisions, inspection reliability, temporal decay, and expiration effects on access decisions.
- Experience with identity standards such as NIST 800-63-3, OAuth2, or OpenID Connect, especially in federal or regulated-industry deployments.
- Ability to own and evolve platform APIs through design, versioning, and deprecation.
- Experience improving engineering culture through documentation, technical standards, architectural review, or developer experience improvements.
- Experience working in government, healthcare, or financial-services environments is preferred.
