Responsibilities
- Partner with Firmware Development, Systems Engineering, QA, Cybersecurity, and Regulatory teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across testing and automation projects.
- Create software verification plans, test protocols, test reports, traceability matrices, and software risk analyses.
- Validate the configuration, functionality, and user interface of software and tools.
- Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated software test scripts.
- Execute existing test cases and develop or modify test interfaces for new and modified firmware features.
- Debug issues using configuration files, logs, and code, and identify and mitigate project risks and roadblocks.
- Apply low-power systems principles and test embedded firmware for battery-powered systems.
- Work with analog and digital hardware interfaces and software operating systems.
- Contribute to design reviews, product requirements, design improvements, and engineering and quality process improvements.
- Lead or help lead projects across multiple sites and geographies.
- Support compliance with FDA design controls and medical-device development and GMP requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with 8–12 years of related experience, or a master’s degree with 5–7 years of equivalent industry experience, or a PhD with 2–4 years of experience.
- In-depth expertise in at least one programming language, including hands-on experience with Java or C# and other object-oriented programming languages.
- Solid experience developing automated tests and familiarity with a variety of automated testing frameworks.
- Experience debugging through configuration files, logs, or code and using defect life-cycle processes and defect-tracking tools such as Jira.
- Prior embedded programming experience, particularly with low-power microcontrollers in battery-powered systems.
- Experience with embedded firmware testing, Bluetooth Low Energy specifications, and FDA design control processes.
- Familiarity with medical-device product development, design controls, and Good Manufacturing Practice requirements.
- Experience leading or helping lead projects and guiding people, teams, and testing initiatives.
- Ability to participate in design reviews and provide input on requirements, product design, and potential problems.
