Responsibilities

  • Lead technical teams and define technical strategy and architecture across multiple services.
  • Design, develop, maintain, and transform software services through the full delivery lifecycle.
  • Perform hands-on coding using technologies including Python, C#, Java, TypeScript, and React.
  • Design and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS or Azure using Terraform infrastructure as code.
  • Drive quality assurance, code reviews, process optimisation, and delivery of high-quality software.
  • Lead projects from analysis and design through implementation and quality assurance while managing technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor and coach developers and foster collaborative, high-performing team cultures.
  • Work collaboratively with Product, UCD, and Delivery teams while balancing technical, user, and business needs.
  • Support user-centred development, accessibility, inclusive design, and appropriate prioritisation of research and design.
  • Present technical information to non-technical audiences and travel to client sites anywhere in the UK when required.

Requirements

  • Experience leading technical teams and defining technical strategy and architecture for multiple services.
  • A full-stack or backend technical background with experience in Python and TypeScript or similar technologies.
  • Experience with AWS or Azure cloud infrastructure and Terraform infrastructure as code.
  • Experience delivering UK Government digital services and understanding of the GDS/NHS Service Standard and assessment process.
  • Strong collaborative leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and technical decision-making skills.
  • A proven track record in quality assurance, code reviews, process optimisation, and full life-cycle delivery.
  • Experience leading projects from start to finish and translating customer requirements into technical designs.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching developers and building collaborative team cultures.
  • Desirable: experience delivering digital services in multidisciplinary product teams.
  • Desirable: knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design, including WCAG standards.
  • Desirable: experience delivering services in complex organisations or programmes with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to travel to UK client sites when needed.
