Responsibilities

  • Build table-level, column-level, and row-level access controls across database connectors.
  • Design policy models, query rewriting, and admin UX for configuring data security rules.
  • Develop governance primitives that ensure agents are appropriately permissioned and observable.
  • Build an automated security center and admin control panel to identify risky access, monitor usage and spend, and provide actionable governance insights.
  • Integrate governance capabilities with compliance and data loss prevention tools.
  • Own technically challenging, cross-functional engineering projects from design through completion.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and teams across Retool.

Requirements

  • 2–8 years of professional software engineering experience, ideally including startup experience.
  • Experience owning technically challenging, cross-functional projects from start to finish.
  • Strong full-stack fundamentals, including backend systems design, data modeling, and reliable scalable software development.
  • Clear communication in design documents, code reviews, and cross-functional discussions.
  • Commitment to code quality, testing, and improving existing codebases.
  • Experience building authorization, access control, or security systems is preferred.
  • Experience with policy engines, query rewriting, or data governance platforms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with RBAC, ABAC, or relationship-based access control models such as Zanzibar, OPA, or Cedar is preferred.
  • Familiarity with OAuth, SAML, SCIM, or similar authentication and authorization protocols is preferred.
  • Experience designing admin-facing UIs or platform management tools is preferred.
