Responsibilities
- Analyze WordPress and web application documentation, source code, configurations, and production results to resolve issues and identify root causes.
- Troubleshoot complex WordPress and web application problems, including theme and plugin conflicts, custom code defects, block editor issues, application errors, performance issues, integration problems, and accessibility defects.
- Participate in application and data design involving content models, databases, APIs, integrations, and application components.
- Assist with work plans, schedules, development estimates, milestones, modernization, and migration projects.
- Consult with clients and stakeholders on WordPress capabilities, development approaches, integrations, accessibility, and implementation options.
- Develop and implement WordPress websites, themes, block themes, custom blocks, plugins, and web applications.
- Build front-end and back-end components using PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and related web technologies.
- Develop and maintain integrations among WordPress, external APIs, data sources, databases, and other web applications.
- Test and remediate solutions for functionality, cross-browser compatibility, responsive behavior, quality, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility.
- Use version control and collaborative development workflows, participate in code reviews, and maintain technical documentation.
- Provide technical support and guidance to less experienced staff and perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Four years of related experience.
- Working knowledge of front-end and back-end web development with HTML5, CSS3, PHP, JavaScript, and related web technologies.
- Working knowledge of modern WordPress development and administration, including themes, plugins, blocks, templates, block-based site development, content management workflows, and site configuration.
- Familiarity with APIs, databases, structured data, and web application integrations.
- Knowledge of responsive web development, cross-browser compatibility, web accessibility standards, version control, and collaborative development workflows.
- Ability to analyze technical problems, evaluate solutions, communicate technical information, multitask, and work cooperatively.
- Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Preferred experience includes modern custom WordPress development, Gutenberg, Full Site Editing, theme.json, REST APIs, third-party services, relational databases, JavaScript frameworks, authentication or single sign-on integrations, CI/CD pipelines, WP Engine, Pantheon, WCAG-conforming applications, and research, government, or higher-education web environments.
- Must be able to work beyond normal business hours and/or on weekends.
