Vice President - Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) - The Core Engineering - Birmingham
Goldman SachsResponsibilities
- Establish SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets with engineering leadership.
- Architect highly available, fault-tolerant, and self-healing systems with product developers.
- Build automation, tooling, and self-service capabilities to reduce operational toil.
- Improve production readiness through load testing, performance tuning, capacity forecasting, chaos engineering, and reliability reviews.
- Lead complex, multi-system production incidents and facilitate blameless post-mortems.
- Promote sustainable on-call models, escalation paths, and balanced pager responsibilities.
- Drive SRE adoption and influence architectural decisions across engineering teams.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in at least one major programming language, such as Java, Python, or Node.js, for tooling and automation.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code frameworks such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
- Deep understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, service meshes, and ingress controllers.
- Advanced experience building and operating resilient cloud-native architectures on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Proficiency with observability technologies including Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, ELK, or CloudWatch.
- Experience with automated testing, SDLC concepts, Linux application development, algorithms, data structures, and software design.
- Knowledge of VPC networking protocols, distributed-systems load balancing, and database query performance tuning.
- Ability to analyze complex distributed systems, collaborate effectively, communicate technical issues clearly, and drive reliability improvements without direct authority.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field involving programming is preferred.
- 7–10 years of experience is preferred.
- Interest in financial markets and technology is preferred.
