Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and verify safety-critical embedded C++ software for aircraft battery management systems.
- Develop software for battery monitoring and protection, fault detection and diagnostics, low-level battery-monitoring interfaces, charger power control, thermal management, safety functions, and communications.
- Integrate algorithms into production embedded software and collaborate on interfaces, performance, and verification.
- Contribute to software architecture, technical roadmaps, design directions, workstream scoping, and development scheduling across BMS and BGSE systems.
- Develop reliable data exchange between the charger, aircraft battery, and backend infrastructure, including aircraft-to-ground charge-control interactions.
- Define and maintain software interfaces with aircraft-side, hardware, algorithm, and backend teams.
- Provide technical guidance through design reviews, code reviews, mentorship, and testing, automation, and release standards.
- Decompose system requirements into software requirements with cross-functional battery, electrical, thermal, systems, aircraft software, and operations teams.
- Support certification through documentation, software- and hardware-in-the-loop verification, and compliance activities.
- Debug hardware/software issues on live high-voltage systems in laboratories, aircraft, and operational field sites.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related STEM field and 8+ years of relevant experience; or a master's degree and 6+ years; or a PhD and 3+ years.
- Expert-level modern C++ experience with real-time operating systems and/or embedded Linux.
- Experience taking problem areas from definition through project or roadmap delivery across multiple embedded software projects.
- Deep understanding of microcontroller and microprocessor architectures with hands-on embedded-target debugging experience.
- Networking and communications experience with Ethernet, UDP, TCP, and CAN.
- Experience providing technical guidance through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD, and automated unit, integration, or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Experience developing against formal requirements for safety-critical or high-reliability systems.
- Prior Python experience and strong communication and documentation skills.
- Preferred familiarity with EV charging systems and EVSE, including DC fast charging, CCS, ISO 15118, OCPP, and MCS.
- Preferred familiarity with battery systems and BMS, state-of-charge and state-of-health estimation, charge algorithms, high-voltage systems, thermal management, liquid cooling control, aviation software standards, DO-178C, ARP4754A, and Linux.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, quick-iteration hardware environment.

- Target base pay is $155,900 - $227,300 per year, with additional compensation in Restricted Stock Units.
