Responsibilities
- Understand end-user requirements and develop commercial and enterprise-grade software.
- Design, implement, test, debug, enhance, and maintain software and new products.
- Build and maintain operating systems, compilers, networking components, databases, and web-based applications.
- Evaluate software compatibility with hardware environments and contribute to architectural decisions.
- Optimize system integration, performance, scalability, and reliability across platforms.
- Document and communicate technical topics independently while working with limited management direction.
- Correct defects, create software enhancements, and contribute to new product development.
- Apply knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, memory management, security mechanisms, processing allocation, and concurrency control.
- Collaborate effectively as a team-oriented, accountable, and dependable software engineer.
- Learn application subject matter independently and contribute to information security responsibilities.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software development experience.
- Proficiency in one or more of TypeScript, C++, or Rust.
- Proficiency with Jira, GitHub, and VSCode.
- Understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- Ability to write high-quality code with minimal support and assess trade-offs in problems of varying complexity.
- Understanding of memory allocation and management, security mechanisms, processing allocation, and concurrency control in target operating systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: proficiency in a mainframe environment and experience with distributed systems and enterprise-scale applications.
- Preferred: familiarity with DevOps practices, modern software architecture, SDLC, and CI/CD processes.
- Preferred: experience writing code with comprehensive unit test coverage.
- Preferred: active contribution to one or more open-source projects.
- Preferred: experience working with the Federal Government in Australia.
- Preferred: advanced degree such as an MBA or MS in Engineering.
