Responsibilities
- Own firmware end-to-end for collection devices, including boot, camera capture, storage, upload, and field recovery.
- Bring up new PCB-based boards by working with clocks, I2C, SPI, UART, USB, cameras, and power, using schematics and oscilloscopes to debug issues.
- Build flashing, factory-programming, and hardware-in-the-loop or production-validation software for manufacturing at scale.
- Develop diagnostics, logging, and host-side integration so device data can be ingested by the San Francisco data infrastructure.
- Optimize device reliability and throughput and collaborate on the device-to-cloud contract.
Requirements
- Must have shipped firmware on real hardware using C, C++, Rust, or similar and be able to debug with an oscilloscope and logs.
- Must have experience with embedded architectures and I/O such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, or wireless, plus cameras, storage, and power.
- Must be comfortable reading schematics and working with electrical engineers on board bring-up.
- Preferred experience includes Python or Go factory tools, OTA, failure-tolerant upload, fleet observability, and taking a project from prototype through production.
- Mandarin is useful, and English proficiency sufficient to work with San Francisco is expected.
