Responsibilities
- Design and deliver scalable, resilient systems and APIs for eBay’s platform and developer ecosystem.
- Lead architecture for high-traffic distributed systems and reusable, evolvable service contracts.
- Establish API design and governance standards for documentation, versioning, observability, and interface consistency.
- Translate business and product requirements into technical strategies and specifications while balancing performance, reliability, cost, and speed.
- Conduct architecture and code reviews, mentor engineers, and strengthen engineering design practices.
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks, scaling challenges, and reliability risks to improve platform performance and operational excellence.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience building and scaling high-traffic, distributed, transaction-heavy systems.
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language such as Java, Python, or Kotlin.
- Strong software design fundamentals, including SOLID principles and common design patterns.
- Deep experience designing and operating APIs at scale, including GraphQL schema design and evolution, efficient data fetching, backward compatibility, and API architecture across GraphQL, REST, and RPC.
- Expertise in distributed systems, multithreading, concurrency, enterprise-scale architecture, performance, availability, and observability.
- Experience creating technical specifications and documented service contracts and driving API design consistency and governance across multiple teams.
- Experience working in Agile environments and using modern developer productivity tools.
- Experience with federated GraphQL, cloud-native or microservices architectures, modern frontend technologies, or large-scale platform strategy is a plus.
