Responsibilities

  • Convert legacy RPG II programs into structured, maintainable COBOL on IBM z/OS.
  • Analyze program logic, file layouts, and data flows to ensure converted code behaves equivalently.
  • Develop and maintain JCL, batch job streams, and related mainframe utilities.
  • Write and tune DB2 for z/OS SQL and work with VSAM and sequential datasets.
  • Perform unit, regression, and parallel-run testing, including data validation and reconciliation.
  • Prepare code and data for rehosting on Google Cloud using the Raincode compiler and runtime.
  • Document converted programs, data dependencies, and technical decisions.
  • Collaborate with client technical and migration teams in an Agile setting.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of professional COBOL development experience on IBM z/OS mainframes.
  • Strong SQL and data skills, particularly DB2 for z/OS, including embedded SQL, query tuning, and data modeling.
  • Experience with JCL, TSO/ISPF, batch processing, VSAM, QSAM or sequential files, and GDGs.
  • Familiarity with mainframe utilities such as DFSORT/SYNCSORT and IDCAMS, and with CICS.
  • Experience with legacy modernization, code conversion, or mainframe migration projects.
  • Experience with Raincode, Micro Focus/Rocket Enterprise Server, GCP, or comparable mainframe rehosting and emulation platforms.
  • Familiarity with Git, Endevor, or ChangeMan for source control and change management.
  • Experience with data validation, reconciliation, and parallel-run testing.
  • B2-level or higher English proficiency with effective written and verbal professional communication.
  • Experience with RPG II or other IBM midrange languages is preferred but not required.
