Base Salary
$190k - $240k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the technical vision, architecture, boundaries, data contracts, technical debt decisions, and documentation for a software domain.
- Partner with the Technical Product Manager to translate business problems into initiatives, projects, and high-level technical requirements.
- Run technical reviews for funded projects and address architectural questions during implementation.
- Set, maintain, and enforce shared technical standards with other Engineering Leads.
- Build systems hands-on, solve the hardest problems in the domain, and occasionally serve as Project Lead.
- Review production incidents, identify architectural root causes, and improve the underlying systems.
- Mentor engineers and coach Project Leads through difficult technical decisions.
- Evaluate AI development tools, frameworks, and practices and contribute to organization-wide decisions about their use.
Requirements
- Deep experience designing, building, operating, and maintaining complex software systems.
- Ability to operate as both an architect and an individual contributor.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing technical work and making clear architectural decisions.
- Proficiency with Python, Django, Amazon Web Services (AWS), React, and PostgreSQL.
- Proficiency developing with AI tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
- Experience setting technical direction across teams without being a manager.
- Curiosity about the insurance domain and willingness to learn the business context supported by the systems.
- Clear communication across engineering, product, and business audiences.
- Low ego, high Emotional Quotient (EQ), and ability to influence without authority.
- Experience working with distributed, remote teams.
