Base Salary

$175k - $185k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design and build performant, scalable backend services primarily with Ruby on Rails and, where appropriate, Go.
  • Evolve Rails systems by extracting well-scoped capabilities and designing clear service boundaries and migration paths.
  • Design reliable data flows between backend services and warehouses such as BigQuery and Snowflake.
  • Own complex technical initiatives from discovery and design through implementation, rollout, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Coordinate technical work across teams, manage dependencies and risks, and influence architectural direction.
  • Diagnose performance bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and improve backend resilience under load.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, design discussions, and technical guidance.
  • Improve code quality, testing, observability, deployment, and operational ownership.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvements.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience building production Ruby on Rails applications.
  • Proven ability to own and deliver complex, multi-component software features in a team environment.
  • Experience designing and operating backend systems at significant scale and complexity.
  • Experience coordinating technical work across team boundaries and managing dependencies, risks, and changing requirements.
  • Expert-level Ruby on Rails proficiency and strong idiomatic Ruby development skills.
  • Strong PostgreSQL proficiency, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning at scale.
  • Understanding of API design, RESTful services, serialization strategies, and versioning.
  • Experience with background job processing such as Sidekiq and asynchronous workflows.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.
  • Understanding of observability practices including logging, metrics, and tracing.
  • Working knowledge of Go.
  • Preferred experience extracting capabilities from monoliths, building social or relationship-driven systems, designing profile aggregations and derived metrics, and scaling graph-shaped data models and fan-out strategies.
  • Preferred ability to influence technical direction across teams and experience using AI-assisted development tools in engineering workflows.
