Senior Back End Engineer I
Thought MachineResponsibilities
- Design and build highly reliable, secure, and scalable backend software solutions.
- Contribute to architecture, technical guidelines, and standards for security, performance, cost, and reliability.
- Review design documents and pull requests while maintaining a high bar for code quality.
- Investigate production issues across distributed services and drive improvements from operational incidents.
- Own engineering work items from concept through production, including delivery plans and dependency management.
- Partner with Product Managers to prioritize features, translate client requirements into technical specifications, and align solutions with product vision.
- Lead incident resolution, including mitigation, fixes, and post-mortem artifacts.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and help shape technical and product roadmaps.
- Participate in technical interviews and translate complex technical decisions for non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in modern backend languages, ideally Go or Python.
- Experience building distributed, cloud-native systems using technologies such as Kubernetes, AWS or GCP, gRPC, and PostgreSQL.
- Proven ability to break down ambiguous and complex problems into clear, deliverable milestones.
- Experience supporting high-throughput systems in production and diagnosing issues across distributed systems.
- Highly collaborative, feedback-receptive approach focused on client and business outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to build consensus and document technical designs clearly.
