Responsibilities

  • Design and implement safe navigation, collision avoidance, and situational awareness systems.
  • Develop scalable subsystems for sensor processing, perception, tracking, motion planning, health management, anomaly detection, simulation, testing fixtures, and vehicle interfaces.
  • Develop reusable software components across multiple product lines.
  • Apply computer vision, sensor fusion, and machine learning techniques to vehicle perception and planning.
  • Test and validate perception and planning algorithms using simulation and real-world experimental data, while evolving data-analysis tooling.
  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, and systems engineers on system integration and testing.
  • Provide technical leadership and end-to-end ownership across the product lifecycle.
  • Travel up to 20% to co-locate with end users and other teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Engineering, a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in C++ and/or Python software development.
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle hardware and sensors including radar, sonar, LIDAR, and cameras.
  • Knowledge of at least one of computer vision, sensor fusion, SLAM, motion planning, or machine learning.
  • Experience in a senior perception or planning role delivering a robotic system.
  • Ability to own a system technically, including stakeholder engagement, requirements definition, roadmap management, coordination, design, implementation, sustainment, and evolution.
  • Ability to define and implement validation and verification strategies for perception and planning modules.
  • Ability to mentor junior team members and build team cohesion and capacity.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Negative Vetting 2 security clearance.
  • Preferred experience with autonomous systems in ground, air, maritime, or space domains.
  • Preferred experience with Gazebo, Unity, or Unreal Engine for algorithm validation and testing.
  • Preferred knowledge of autonomous-system safety standards, certification processes, and systems engineering concepts.
