Base Salary
$179k - $225k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers building distributed microservices and full-stack systems.
- Collaborate with product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions.
- Develop with Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS services.
- Provide technical leadership across Agile teams and establish standards for design, development, and operational excellence.
- Define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks with architects.
- Refactor systems, reduce technical debt, and improve performance.
- Evaluate emerging tools and practices while influencing long-term technology strategy.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to internal and external technology communities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not apply.
- At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
- Preferred: master’s degree, 7+ years coding with more than two listed programming languages, and experience with databases and database management systems.
- Preferred: 3+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, or related cloud technologies; open source frameworks; front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks; APIs; CI/CD pipelines; infrastructure as code; automated testing; Git-based version control; and cloud troubleshooting.
- Preferred: experience with AI-based coding tools, interactive AI tooling, observability, distributed-system performance optimization, mentoring, cross-functional engineering leadership, and enforcing coding standards and design patterns.

- Full-time annual salary varies by work location: $179,400-$204,700 in Richmond, VA and $197,300-$225,100 in McLean, VA.
- The role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, including potential cash bonuses and long-term incentives.
