Responsibilities
- Investigate field-reported anomalies across autonomous vehicle, sensor, mission, and deployment subsystems.
- Reproduce failures by replaying recorded sensor and mission data through live pipelines and visualization tools.
- Use service metrics, dashboards, and centralized logs to reconstruct system state and identify root causes.
- Implement and ship fixes in the relevant Rust, C++, Python, or Go subsystem with tests and standard CI and versioned rollout processes.
- Validate fixes in simulation and hardware-in-the-loop environments before deployment to real vehicles.
- Distinguish among code bugs, configuration problems, and deployment mismatches and resolve issues at the appropriate layer.
- Document root causes and fixes, identify missing tests and recurring subsystem failures, and help establish an on-call and triage runbook.
- Collaborate with owning teams when issues require subsystem-level changes rather than symptom patches.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience debugging code written by others under time pressure and with incomplete information.
- Working proficiency in at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, and Go.
- Systems-debugging experience using logs and metrics and reproducing issues offline from recorded data.
- Practical experience with observability tooling comparable to Prometheus/Grafana metrics and Loki/ELK logs.
- Linux and systems fluency.
- Clear technical writing and root-cause communication skills.
- Willingness to work closely with hardware and sensors, including without prior maritime or robotics experience.
- Willingness to travel 25% or more on average.
- Robotics middleware, sensor-driver, or real-time data-pipeline experience is preferred.
- Simulation-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop experience is preferred.
- CI/CD and versioned deployment experience for embedded or fleet software is preferred.
- On-call or field-support experience for hardware deployed to real users is preferred.
