Responsibilities

  • Own Elicit’s scholarly search and data platform, including its coverage, freshness, quality, reliability, and cost.
  • Bring new evidence sources into Elicit and make them useful for LLM-based research features while preserving structure, citations, and provenance.
  • Build secure, rights-aware integrations for enterprise customers and content partners, addressing access, privacy, isolation, and auditability.
  • Develop and ship features across frontend, backend, and data layers from initial brief through production.
  • Operate shipped systems through staged rollouts, monitoring, rollback plans, and ongoing reliability and complexity management.
  • Work on broader product features and make the data platform easier for other engineers to use.
  • Use coding agents productively while reviewing their output carefully and remaining hands-on for high-stakes work.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including ownership of production systems and architecture decisions.
  • Strong Python skills, working knowledge of TypeScript, and preferably React experience.
  • Experience designing, debugging, and tuning distributed data pipelines; Spark experience is especially useful.
  • Solid SQL knowledge and practical understanding of partitioning, joins, columnar formats, and data layout impacts on performance and cost.
  • Experience integrating messy external data through APIs, bulk exports, file drops, changing schemas, rate limits, partial failures, and overlapping records.
  • Care for data quality, entity resolution, provenance, observability, and failure planning.
  • Experience shipping user-facing features end to end, not only backend systems.
  • Product judgment and ability to connect infrastructure work to researcher-facing capabilities.
  • At least one year at an early- or growth-stage company where you shaped the work.
  • Clear communication with technical and nontechnical stakeholders and ability to explain trade-offs.
  • Practical coding-agent experience that improves speed without reducing quality.

Benefits
