Base Salary

$216k - $239k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own architecture for multi-mission IR data systems spanning ingest, preprocessing, orchestration, storage, cataloging, delivery, and execution platforms.
  • Lead critical capabilities from problem framing and design through implementation, rollout, adoption, and operational hand-off.
  • Drive low-latency processing architecture, including event-driven services, cloud infrastructure optimization, and algorithmic optimization.
  • Set direction for geospatial data storage, cataloging, serving, tiling, STAC catalogs, IAM topology, reprocessing, and versioning.
  • Build MLOps foundations including model packaging and versioning, experiment tracking, GPU-backed training and inference, A/B evaluation, and reproducibility.
  • Set standards for code organization, release engineering, testing, documentation, code review, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Coordinate with Product, Program Management, Business Development, Software, science, and flight-software teams and translate ambiguous requirements into engineering plans.
  • Mentor engineers and raise team standards for failure modes, immutability, idempotency, reprocessing, and operational readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years, MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership on production data platforms at scale, including successful designs and rollouts.
  • Experience designing and operating production data pipelines on AWS with a modern workflow orchestrator such as Flyte, Airflow, Prefect, Argo, or equivalent.
  • Track record leading multi-quarter architectural initiatives across multiple services or teams.
  • Experience with latency optimization, benchmarking, instrumentation, right-sizing, fan-out, caching, and asynchronous I/O.
  • Strong operational experience with observability, SLOs, on-call, safe deployments, hotfix protocols, immutability, and reproducibility.
  • Excellent technical writing and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Preferred experience with event-driven or microservices architectures, queues, event routing, backpressure, retries, dead-letter queues, and service contracts.
  • Preferred familiarity with Union.ai or Flyte v2, Terraform, AWS IAM boundaries, geospatial or remote-sensing systems, geospatial storage formats, tile stores, and STAC.
  • Preferred hands-on MLOps experience with model packaging, experiment tracking, GPU-backed training and inference, feature stores, and A/B harnesses.
  • Preferred experience with GPU acceleration using JAX, CuPy, or CUDA; satellite ground-segment systems; imagery or tiled geospatial data delivery; and latency SLOs and benchmarking discipline.
