Senior Shopify Developer (Contract Role)

Responsibilities
- Build and customize Shopify and Shopify Plus storefronts using Online Store 2.0 themes, Liquid, sections, blocks, metafields, metaobjects, and checkout extensibility.
- Develop headless and non-headless commerce experiences using Storefront API, Hydrogen, Next.js, Liquid, Oxygen, Vercel, and Netlify.
- Integrate Shopify with Sitecore, SitecoreAI, XM Cloud, Contentstack, and Optimizely in headless or composable architectures.
- Develop Shopify apps, Functions, checkout and customer account UI extensions, and Flow automations using Admin GraphQL API, webhooks, and Shopify CLI.
- Integrate Shopify with ERP, PIM, OMS, CRM, payment, tax, search, and marketing platforms through APIs, middleware, and event-driven patterns.
- Support technical discovery, data modeling, estimation, technical specifications, solution design, and risk identification.
- Write tested and documented code and ensure commerce solutions meet performance, accessibility, SEO, and security standards.
- Partner with QA on test plans and UAT, resolve defects, and support deployments, store migrations, and production releases.
- Collaborate with technology, project management, strategy, UX/creative, and client teams to deliver commerce features.
- Mentor junior developers, participate in code reviews, contribute to reusable components and internal standards, and support proposals, estimates, and solution demos.
- Use AI development tools responsibly to improve engineering velocity and quality.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on Shopify development experience, including Shopify Plus implementations for mid-market or enterprise brands.
- Experience integrating Shopify with at least one of Sitecore, Contentstack, or Optimizely in headless or composable architectures.
- Strong command of Liquid, Online Store 2.0 theme architecture, Shopify CLI, and theme and app development workflows.
- Hands-on experience with Storefront API, Admin GraphQL API, REST, webhooks, Shopify Functions, and checkout extensibility.
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Next.js skills; Hydrogen or Remix experience is preferred.
- Experience with REST/GraphQL integrations, middleware, and serverless or edge functions on Vercel, Netlify, or Oxygen.
- Working knowledge of Git-based workflows, CI/CD, Agile/Scrum delivery, estimation, and sprint planning.
- Knowledge of accessibility, SEO, web performance, and security best practices for commerce sites.
- Strong communication skills for explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred qualifications include AI development tool experience, Shopify AI familiarity, composable-stack tools, replatforming experience, Shopify Markets, B2B Shopify, international multi-store setups, relevant certifications, and agency or consulting experience.
