Responsibilities
- Optimize AI models, training workflows, and inference applications on AMD Instinct GPUs.
- Profile, benchmark, and optimize AI workloads using ROCm, PyTorch, JAX, vLLM, Triton, and performance engineering tools.
- Develop reproducible benchmarking frameworks and automation scripts for performance validation across AI models, software stacks, runtimes, drivers, and accelerator platforms.
- Analyze bottlenecks involving compute, memory bandwidth, communication, and kernel execution.
- Investigate model optimization techniques including operator fusion, scheduling, mixed precision, and quantization.
- Evaluate GPU performance across hardware and software environments and provide data-driven recommendations to improve efficiency, scalability, throughput, latency, and system utilization.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field, with graduation expected after the internship concludes.
- Hands-on programming experience with Python and C/C++, plus exposure to CUDA, HIP, Triton, or similar accelerator programming technologies.
- Experience with PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow and familiarity with large-scale AI model training and inference.
- Experience working in Linux environments with scripting, debugging, profiling, and performance analysis.
- Exposure to GPU architecture concepts including memory hierarchy, parallel execution, kernel optimization, communication efficiency, operator fusion, scheduling, or accelerator performance characteristics.
- Familiarity with profiling and benchmarking tools such as rocProfiler, ROCm Systems Profiler, Omniperf, Nsight, or equivalent technologies.
- Interest or experience with quantization, mixed precision, distributed training, model serving, or large language model performance optimization.

- Full-time, 40-hour-per-week hybrid or onsite work in San Jose or Santa Clara, California.
- Available terms include Spring/Summer Co-op from January 25, 2027 to August 13, 2027; Summer Internship from May 24, June 21, or June 21 through August 13 or September 10, 2027 depending on academic calendar; and Summer/Fall Co-op from May 24 or June 21 through December 10, 2027 depending on academic calendar.
