Responsibilities
- Develop flight software for robot control, reasoning, task logic, telemetry, fault management, safe modes, and recovery.
- Implement real-time control loops, actuator and sensor interfaces, and sensor-fusion systems.
- Build embedded and low-level software including firmware, drivers, hardware abstraction layers, and real-time bus interfaces.
- Design and own software architecture and features from requirements and interfaces through hardware integration and flight.
- Package, deploy, and test software on robotic systems across simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, bench, environmental, and flight testing.
- Integrate software with hardware in collaboration with electronics, robotics, GNC, and other multidisciplinary engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's, master's, or PhD in computer science, electrical, computer, aerospace, or mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of production software development for physical systems such as spacecraft, robots, drones, or vehicles.
- Strong C or C++ experience for real-time and safety-critical systems, including embedded firmware on microcontrollers, plus Python.
- Experience with low-level communication protocols including EtherCAT, CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART.
- Systems-level understanding of the hardware driven by software and how subsystems affect one another.
- Experience shipping and deploying software to hardware that had to operate outside the lab.
- U.S. person status required for export control under ITAR/EAR.
- Preferred qualifications include space flight or satellite integration experience, in-space robotics, robotics or motion control, radiation-tolerant software, space-grade processors, camera or depth-sensor perception, and startup experience.
Benefits
- Work is expected to fly to space within the employee's first year.
- Set the software architecture used for future flight systems.
- Work across software, hardware, robotics, and testing with room to grow into a technical leadership role.
- Join a multidisciplinary team with experience from organizations including NASA JPL, SpaceX, Boeing, Honeywell Space, and others.
- Work on a new space robotics system and physical AI applications for space.
