Base Salary

Responsibilities

  • Develop software safety architecture, safety concepts, safety mechanisms, and Level of Rigor activities for autonomous vehicle systems.
  • Perform hazard identification and safety analyses including FHA, FMEA, FMECA, FTA, Modes, States and Transitions Hazard Analysis, and robotic behavior or capability assessments.
  • Apply MIL-STD-882E-based safety processes and incorporate model-based safety across Forterra’s software ecosystem.
  • Derive software requirements from safety analyses and collaborate with teams on safety-critical software test cases and verification activities.
  • Analyze C/C++ and embedded software in complex environments involving RTOS, microprocessors, and hypervisors.
  • Participate in trade studies, testing, Systems Engineering Technical Reviews, Software System Safety Technical Review Panels, working groups, and Level of Rigor audits.
  • Communicate software safety considerations and progress across the engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, software, systems, or related engineering, computer science, or a related technical field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 5–10+ years of experience as a Software Safety Engineer, Systems Safety Engineer, or in a related role focused on autonomous or safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, AOP-52, DO-178C, ISO 26262, or related software safety standards.
  • Experience with ASPICE software development processes and MISRA coding standards.
  • Experience using Jama, DOORS, or Polarion for requirements management and JIRA for issue tracking.
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle perception, prediction, path planning, and control principles.
  • Strong analytical skills in linear algebra, geometry, and probability.
  • Experience analyzing C/C++ software or software-based tools such as SCADE and Simulink in complex ecosystems.
  • Experience supporting unit testing, software integration testing, and embedded software testing.
  • Software or safety certifications such as ASPICE are preferred, as are experience with robotics, AI or machine learning, and direct experience developing safety-critical software, autonomous vehicles, or advanced ADAS applications.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex engineering issues to diverse teams.
  • May require eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
