Responsibilities

  • Run and evolve Kubernetes platforms and software release processes for on-site quantum systems using k3s, ArgoCD, and Helm.
  • Improve CI speed and reliability, including hardware-in-the-loop and FPGA build runners and build caches.
  • Define dashboards and alerts as code and move quantum-system hardware observability onto the shared observability platform.
  • Provide ready-to-use remote development environments for engineers and physicists working with quantum-system hardware.
  • Maintain secure, recoverable, reproducible, and reviewable on-site and cloud infrastructure as code, including secrets, access, certificates, and identity.
  • Lead strategic platform projects, make technical decisions, and write runbooks and guides for safe platform changes.
  • Collaborate with physicists, lab technicians, firmware and software engineers, IT, product management, infrastructure, and production SRE teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a Platform, DevOps, or Site Reliability role running Linux systems in production.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code, Kubernetes, containerized production workloads, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Terraform or OpenTofu and ideally GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with production observability and security, including monitoring, alerting, secrets, and access control.
  • Ability to diagnose issues across infrastructure, storage, pipelines, and development environments and lead work from design through rollout.
  • Proficiency in Python, shell, and OpenTofu; product-code experience with Rust and Python is relevant but the role focuses on build and test infrastructure.
  • Experience with AI coding tools is helpful, and interest in quantum computing is welcome but not required.
  • Ability to plan rollbacks, validate changes against real systems, and document technical learnings.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, IonQ stock options, and an annual performance bonus.
  • Generous annual leave, flexible hybrid working, and private medical and dental insurance for employees and their families.
  • Medical, dental, and vision plans, matching 401(k), unlimited PTO, paid holidays, parental/adoption leave, legal insurance, and a home technology stipend.
  • Opportunities for career development alongside scientists, engineers, and industry leaders.
  • The role is based in Oxford, England, UK, with a hybrid working pattern.
