Responsibilities
- Own UKG’s technical strategy, vision, and 12–24 month direction for agentic AI, including platform selection, orchestration standards, and evaluation methodology.
- Define and maintain the enterprise reference architecture for multi-agent coordination, task delegation, agent communication, shared tools, and MCP layers.
- Design, build, deploy, test, and maintain production-grade AI agents, agent workflows, integrations, custom tools, skills, and plugins.
- Lead multi-team initiatives, translate ambiguous business problems into technical charters, and drive convergence across independently owned workstreams.
- Establish operational standards for agent deployment, monitoring, versioning, lifecycle management, observability, performance, cost control, and failure analysis.
- Define agent safety and governance standards for autonomous actions involving payroll and HR data, including permission boundaries, human review, audit trails, and blast-radius limits.
- Set the organization-wide evaluation and quality bar for task success, cost, safety, prompt validation, workflow testing, tool invocation, and adversarial scenarios.
- Mentor Senior and Staff engineers, develop reusable engineering patterns and guidance, and influence organization-wide technical decisions.
- Represent UKG with Google, Anthropic, and other platform partners to shape roadmaps, secure early access, and guide framework adoption.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years building agentic AI systems or LLM-powered applications in production at scale.
- Proven experience setting technical direction across multiple teams and delivering large-scale, complex software or agentic AI initiatives.
- Experience taking enterprise-scale, multi-tenant, SLA-backed agentic systems handling regulated data from prototype to production.
- Hands-on experience with production agent platforms or frameworks such as Google ADK, Anthropic Claude SDK, LangChain, or LangGraph.
- Experience designing multi-agent systems, orchestration patterns, tool-use architectures, APIs, MCP, and function calling.
- Strong understanding of prompt engineering, context engineering, ReAct, Chain-of-Thought, tool use, and multi-agent collaboration patterns.
- Deep expertise in one or more of Python, Java, C#, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
- Extensive software architecture and design-pattern experience, including scalable and reliable systems developed in a DevOps model.
- Strong cloud and DevOps knowledge, including GCP, Vertex AI, Google ADK, Azure, Azure OpenAI, AWS, Bedrock, and GitHub.
- Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree or PhD, experience defining evaluation and safety standards, owning inference cost and model-selection strategy, and building telemetry, observability, MCP servers, and reusable tool layers.
- Preferred experience includes RAG, CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, agile development methodologies, complex matrixed organizations, platform-partner programs, accessible technologies, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
