Responsibilities
- Own the technical vision and long-term evolution of API Gateway and traffic platforms for external ingress and internal service-to-service traffic.
- Architect and deliver a unified traffic abstraction layer decoupling backend services from CDN-specific implementations and enabling centralized routing, metadata control, and multi-CDN failover.
- Define architectural standards and design patterns for ingress, traffic routing, API management, security, scalability, and reliability.
- Lead cross-team initiatives across networking, platform, SRE, security, and observability to deliver cloud-agnostic ingress solutions.
- Design and govern CI/CD and GitOps workflows, including progressive rollouts, automated validation, and rollback strategies.
- Advance infrastructure-as-code and container orchestration practices using Terraform, Helm, and Kubernetes.
- Build foundational traffic tooling and services primarily in Go or Python.
- Define observability standards covering metrics, logs, tracing, SLIs, SLOs, and automated remediation.
- Mentor senior engineers, review high-impact designs, unblock teams, and raise platform engineering standards.
- Identify scaling limits, security gaps, and reliability risks and drive strategic investments before production issues occur.
Requirements
- 9+ years of experience in Infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE roles focused on production traffic, automation, and API delivery.
- B-Tech or M-Tech in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Deep hands-on experience with the Envoy API Gateway in large-scale production environments, including architecture, rollout strategies, failure handling, and long-term evolution.
- Expert-level programming ability in Go or Python and experience delivering production-grade platforms, internal tooling, and services at scale.
- Strong understanding of CDN architectures and integrations, including Akamai, Fastly, or Cloudflare, cache strategies, request routing, edge security, and failover.
- Advanced proficiency with Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm for reusable infrastructure modules, platform standards, self-service, and operational guardrails.
- Deep knowledge of networking and distributed systems, including TLS termination, L4/L7 routing, traffic shaping, rate limiting, retries, circuit breaking, and failure isolation.
- Experience making observability, automation, and resiliency first-class concerns through metrics, logs, traces, SLIs/SLOs, and automated remediation.
- Strong architectural judgment, systems thinking, and ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers and improve engineering standards and delivery reliability.
