Responsibilities
- Architect and optimize distributed infrastructure handling billions of documents and hundreds of queries per second.
- Lead migration from legacy systems to modern architecture while maintaining zero downtime and improving performance.
- Establish comprehensive monitoring, testing, alerting, and deployment practices.
- Profile and tune systems across infrastructure and application layers to balance cost and performance.
- Transform search infrastructure from reactive to proactive, reduce latency, complete a major platform migration, and improve scalability.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and operating distributed systems in production.
- Experience with large-scale data platforms or high-throughput systems.
- Expertise in distributed-systems fundamentals including sharding, replication, consistency, and partition tolerance.
- Strong performance-optimization skills, including profiling, diagnosing, and fixing bottlenecks across the stack.
- Experience with data-pipeline architecture, real-time processing, or database internals.
- Experience building observable systems with comprehensive monitoring and alerting.
- Preferred experience with Vespa, Elasticsearch, Solr, or similar large-scale data systems.
- Preferred experience with Kubernetes, CRDs, and infrastructure as code.
- Preferred background in information retrieval, ranking systems, or recommendation engines.
- Preferred familiarity with hybrid lexical and vector search approaches.
- Preferred experience with JVM-based systems and tuning.
- Knowledge of modern engineering practices from high-growth companies is preferred.
