Responsibilities
- Set and drive strategy for software architecture initiatives supporting advanced weapons, missile systems, guidance applications, and mission-critical defense platforms.
- Define long-term roadmaps for software frameworks, interface architectures, data models, real-time execution, modular reuse, and digital engineering practices.
- Lead technical trades and risk-reduction plans from concept exploration through design, development, integration, verification, testing, certification, and fielding support.
- Provide technical leadership for programs and captures, including solution development, technical differentiation, architecture maturity, and customer alignment.
- Establish software blueprints, interface definitions, integration strategies, and implementation patterns for mission-critical environments.
- Lead trade studies involving open architecture, software partitioning, latency, scalability, cybersecurity, fault tolerance, processor utilization, and lifecycle affordability.
- Influence technical direction across software, systems, hardware, integration, cybersecurity, and mission engineering organizations.
- Mentor chief engineers, IPT leads, and senior technical staff in software architecture, interface design, hardware-software integration, real-time implementation, and digital engineering.
- Present architecture concepts, risks, trade studies, mitigations, and recommendations to senior leaders and customers.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s, master’s, and/or PhD in a relevant STEM discipline, with 20 years of experience for a BS or 18 years of experience for an MS or PhD.
- Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at application, with the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
- Demonstrated experience architecting real-time, embedded, or mission-critical aerospace and defense software systems.
- Experience with systems engineering and verification spanning requirements development, architecture definition, integration, testing, and fielding support.
- Experience working with IPT Leads, Chief Engineers, and program leadership on complex development efforts.
- Deep experience with software architecture for mission-critical defense systems, including real-time operating systems, deterministic behavior, timing and latency management, hardware abstraction, and hardware-software integration.
- Experience translating mission and operational needs into scalable software frameworks, APIs, interface contracts, and data models.
- Experience with open architecture and modular design, including WOSA or comparable defense frameworks.
- Experience with software verification strategies, hardware-in-the-loop integration, safety-critical practices, and cybersecurity objectives.
- Working knowledge of MBSE, digital engineering, and tools such as DOORS, Cameo, SysML, and DoDAF.
- Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree, weapon-system architecture experience, DO-178C knowledge, modeling and simulation experience, software-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop environments, and successful capture or proposal leadership.
