Responsibilities

  • Diagnose field-reported anomalies across vehicle subsystems rather than only the reporting location.
  • Replay recorded sensor and mission data through live pipelines and visualization tooling to reproduce failures.
  • Use service metrics, dashboards, and centralized logs to reconstruct system state during incidents.
  • Validate fixes in simulation and hardware-in-the-loop environments before deployment to real vehicles.
  • Implement tested fixes in the applicable Rust, C++, Python, or Go subsystem and ship them through normal versioned rollouts.
  • Distinguish between software bugs, configuration problems, and deployment mismatches and resolve issues at the correct layer.
  • Document root causes and fixes, identify missing tests, and help create the team’s on-call and triage runbook.
  • Escalate issues to owning teams when subsystem-level changes are required.

Requirements

  • Experience debugging code written by others under time pressure and with incomplete information.
  • Working familiarity with at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, and Go.
  • Systems-debugging experience using logs and metrics and reproducing issues offline from recorded data.
  • Hands-on exposure to observability tooling such as Prometheus/Grafana-class metrics and Loki/ELK-class logs.
  • Linux and systems fluency, with declarative or immutable operating-system experience such as NixOS a bonus.
  • Ability to clearly document root causes and fixes.
  • Willingness to work close to hardware and sensors without requiring prior maritime or robotics experience.
  • Willingness to travel 25% or more of the time on average.
  • Robotics middleware, sensor-driver, or real-time data-pipeline experience is preferred.
  • Simulation-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop testing experience is preferred.
  • CI/CD and versioned deployment experience for embedded or fleet software is preferred.
  • On-call or field-support experience for hardware deployed to real users is preferred.

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits package available at little to no cost to full-time employees.
  • The posting states that the role is full-time and that equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
