Base Salary
$180k - $210k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build scalable, highly available, high-throughput systems deployed in cloud environments.
- Design and build low-latency search APIs, indexing pipelines, and retrieval systems using Python, Typesense, and AWS.
- Evaluate and evolve retrieval architecture, indexing strategies, search technologies, and system performance tradeoffs.
- Use Docker, AWS, and Terraform for containers, cloud infrastructure, and infrastructure as code.
- Lead work from technical design and implementation through productionization and customer-facing delivery.
- Investigate system performance and data freshness anomalies and trace issues to root cause.
- Write readable, thoroughly tested code and promote operational excellence.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and client stakeholders to improve search experience and discoverability.
- Mentor teammates and help raise the engineering bar.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience operating in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
- Experience designing, fine-tuning, and operating high-scale backend systems, APIs, or data delivery platforms.
- Production-level expertise in at least two of distributed systems, information retrieval, and high-scale API development.
- Ability to collaborate with product managers, engineers, and client stakeholders and communicate technical tradeoffs clearly.
- Bonus experience includes Typesense, Python, AWS, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or FAISS; customer-facing search or recommendation systems; SaaS data products; engineering team leadership; and mentoring senior engineers.
