Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy and hands-on modernization of software engineering productivity and effectiveness across teams.
- Define and execute a phased migration from Make- and shell-based build orchestration to Bazel.
- Design reusable Bazel rules, macros, toolchains, platforms, configuration patterns, and repository standards.
- Migrate embedded applications, libraries, generated code, firmware, cross-compilation flows, and platform variants while maintaining build parity and reproducibility.
- Integrate Bazel with enterprise testing, release, artifact, deployment, observability, security, infrastructure, and developer workflows.
- Optimize build and test performance through caching, parallelism, reliability practices, documentation, training, and legacy Make retirement.
- Measure build, CI, testing, reproducibility, artifact provenance, security compliance, and developer-adoption outcomes.
- Evaluate AI-enabled engineering workflows and productivity capabilities using measurable quality, adoption, and productivity metrics.
- Coach and mentor engineers while influencing technical direction across the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of software development experience.
- Deep understanding of real-time software architecture and experience shipping high-quality safety-critical products.
- Experience in automotive, embedded, calibration, safety-related, or systems-engineering environments.
- Experience leading large-scale migration from Make or shell-based build orchestration to Bazel.
- Strong expertise building and maintaining production software systems, including proficiency in Python and at least one additional engineering-tooling language.
- Experience with AI-assisted developer productivity, coding agents, code intelligence, knowledge retrieval, or workflow orchestration.
- Ability to evaluate AI-enabled engineering workflows using measurable quality, adoption, and productivity outcomes.
- Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, communication, prioritization, and mentoring abilities.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree or PhD; experience with embedded or automotive software and safety-related toolchains; GM engineering tools or internal platforms; AI assistants or coding agents; knowledge systems, vector search, ranking, workflow orchestration, or code intelligence; and production AI-quality evaluation.
