Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end solution architecture for complex payment initiatives across multiple technology crews.
- Shape Payments domain architecture and translate strategic direction into practical solution designs.
- Establish reusable architecture patterns, guardrails and API standards.
- Guide engineering and delivery teams in balancing cost, risk, resilience, performance and delivery constraints.
- Design secure, scalable and highly available solutions that meet resilience, risk and regulatory expectations.
- Own architecture decisions from concept through delivery and maintain architectural intent as solutions evolve.
- Design for operability, observability, recoverability and production resilience.
- Identify practical opportunities for generative and agentic AI across the Payments technology landscape.
- Produce architecture artifacts and drive decisions through architecture and governance forums.
- Partner with enterprise architecture, engineering, security, risk, product and business teams.
Requirements
- Strong experience in payments, preferably within a large financial institution or complex enterprise environment.
- Experience across areas such as Australian domestic payments, international payments, correspondent banking, RTGS and high-value payment ecosystems.
- Strong understanding of ISO 20022 and end-to-end payment lifecycles.
- Strong architecture experience across APIs, microservices and event-driven systems.
- Experience designing cloud-native solutions; AWS experience is highly regarded.
- Understanding of integration patterns, security, resilience and non-functional design.
- Experience modernizing complex or legacy platforms through domain decoupling, decomposition and progressive modernization.
- Working knowledge of established architecture methods and practices.
- Understanding of generative and agentic AI and the ability to identify practical applications.
- Ability to influence through technical credibility, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, navigate ambiguity and manage competing priorities.
