Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex WordPress and web application issues involving themes, plugins, custom code, blocks, integrations, performance, and accessibility.
- Develop and maintain WordPress websites, themes, block themes, custom blocks, plugins, and web applications.
- Build front-end and back-end components using PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and related web technologies.
- Develop integrations between WordPress, external APIs, data sources, databases, and other applications.
- Test and remediate applications for functionality, browser compatibility, responsive behavior, quality, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility.
- Consult with stakeholders, provide technical recommendations, and contribute to project plans, schedules, specifications, and design documentation.
- Collaborate with developers, designers, content managers, project leaders, and stakeholders throughout development, testing, deployment, and support.
- Maintain technical documentation and provide guidance to less experienced staff on WordPress workflows, codebases, troubleshooting, and quality standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Four years of web applications development experience focused on WordPress and web development, including public-facing WordPress sites or web applications.
- Working knowledge of front-end and back-end development using HTML5, CSS3, PHP, JavaScript, and related web technologies.
- Working knowledge of modern WordPress development and administration, including themes, plugins, blocks, templates, block-based sites, content workflows, and configuration.
- Familiarity with APIs, databases, structured data, web application integrations, responsive development, cross-browser compatibility, accessibility standards, version control, and collaborative development workflows.
- Ability to analyze technical problems, evaluate solutions, communicate technical information, multitask, and work cooperatively.
- Preferred qualifications include a degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related field; more than four years of relevant experience; Gutenberg, Full Site Editing, theme.json, REST API, third-party service, relational database, JavaScript framework, authentication, CI/CD, hosting, WCAG, or research, government, or higher education experience.
