Senior Software Engineer, Platform CAM
Atomic Machines2 days ago
Base Salary
$185k - $220k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve Go and Python software infrastructure for geometric intent and physical-process operations.
- Develop reusable representations and algorithms for shapes, regions, coordinate frames, spatial relationships, and process planning.
- Translate process-expert knowledge into explicit models, constraints, interfaces, acceptance criteria, and testable software behavior.
- Extend shared geometric capabilities to new processes while preserving explicit process-specific behavior and integrating with machine software and fab coordination.
- Test geometric and software correctness, ensure reproducible generated results, and validate assumptions with experts and physical measurements.
- Use AI for investigation, design, implementation, testing, and documentation while inspecting changes and verifying results.
Requirements
- Typically 8+ years of production software ownership for the senior target, with level determined by demonstrated scope and ability.
- Productive Python skills and strong Go or C++ skills, with readiness to work in Go.
- Experience in or demonstrated deep interest in geometric reasoning, including shapes, spatial relationships, abstractions, and their limitations.
- Evidence of designing reusable software infrastructure, simplifying complexity, testing systems, and safely evolving clear interfaces.
- Strong AI fluency, including providing context, challenging proposals, inspecting code, and meaningfully testing accepted work.
- Ability to collaborate with domain experts, make assumptions explicit, and convert their knowledge into testable software behavior.
- Care with units, coordinate frames, tolerances, and approximation, plus willingness to learn unfamiliar physical processes and work directly with fab equipment.
- BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Benefits
- Equity and benefits are included in the compensation package.
- Salary range is $185,000—$220,000 USD.
- The role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with offices in Emeryville and Santa Clara.
About Atomic Machines
Atomic Machines develops the Matter Compiler (MC-1), a digital, multi-process, multi-material micromanufacturing platform that fabricates complete micromachines and MEMS-class devices. The company plans to commercialize both the platform’s automated Nodes and device products, with an initial product aimed at AI data-center hardware. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Emeryville, California, Atomic Machines is privately held and operates a hybrid fab to support rapid development and scale-up.
