Staff Software Engineer, Distributed Data Services - Slack

Responsibilities
- Build and operate performant, highly available, reliable, and scalable distributed data services for Slack.
- Maintain critical production infrastructure and drive reliability, uptime, and operational safety.
- Develop edge caching, Enterprise Key Management, Data Residency, image proxying, and other core Slack services.
- Untangle complex issues involving existing system architecture and make persuasive engineering-versus-product trade-offs.
- Apply unit testing, code review, design documentation, debugging, and troubleshooting practices.
- Support globally distributed customers and compliance requirements with minimal latency.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required; the role cannot provide visa sponsorship.
- 10+ years of professional experience building and operating large-scale systems, with concrete examples of shipped and owned work.
- Hands-on experience managing critical production infrastructure and driving reliability and uptime with a customer-first operational perspective.
- Deep experience with reliable, safe distributed systems and the judgment to evaluate engineering and product trade-offs.
- Strong ability to resolve complex issues requiring deep knowledge of existing architecture.
- Professional experience building and operating web applications, with strong fundamentals in unit testing, code review, design documentation, debugging, and troubleshooting.
- Go programming language experience is a bonus.
- Experience with AWS, Docker containers, Kubernetes, or highly regulated environments using FEDRAMP/NIST frameworks is beneficial.

- The annual base salary range is $197,300-$313,700, or $237,700-$344,700 in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area locations.
- The role is based on U.S. work eligibility requiring citizenship or permanent residency.
