Responsibilities
- Own complex features and technical problems across cloud services, APIs, event-driven systems, web applications, IoT infrastructure, and occasionally the device edge.
- Translate loosely defined product or customer needs into detailed technical solutions and drive designs through implementation and production.
- Lead technical work through influence by coordinating engineers and teams and helping groups reach sound decisions.
- Improve team effectiveness through code and design reviews, mentoring, pairing, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing.
- Design software with attention to observability, failure modes, security, performance, cost, maintainability, and deployment strategy.
- Collaborate with Product, QA, firmware, security, operations, and other engineering teams.
- Contribute to architecture, development practices, tooling, and engineering culture improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; a master’s degree is a plus.
- At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience and a record of independently owning substantial technical problems through production.
- Experience designing, building, and operating production distributed systems or cloud applications.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, debugging ability, systems thinking, technical judgment, ownership, initiative, and communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to remain hands-on while helping other engineers succeed.
- Valuable qualifications include AWS or comparable cloud platforms, IoT or connected-device systems, TypeScript, Node.js, event-driven architectures, infrastructure as code, Angular, React, GraphQL, WebSockets, MQTT, observability, distributed tracing, and embedded C or C++.
