Responsibilities
- Develop and operate a large-scale distributed object storage platform at exabyte scale.
- Design multi-tenant isolation, quota enforcement, traffic shaping, rate limiting, and blast-radius containment mechanisms.
- Improve system availability, durability, performance, and efficiency across a distributed hardware fleet.
- Drive architectural evolution, including retiring legacy approaches and simplifying fragmented systems without downtime.
- Lead complex and ambiguous technical projects end to end and shape platform direction.
- Build observability and telemetry that makes complex system behavior understandable to engineers or customers.
- Collaborate across teams to develop consensus on major technical changes.
Requirements
- In-depth backend software engineering experience with strong computer science fundamentals in networking, filesystems, and security concepts.
- Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems, including availability, congestion control, observability, and fault tolerance.
- Experience driving complex, ambiguous technical projects end to end and collaborating across teams.
- Experience with multi-tenant resource isolation, rate limiting, quota systems, large-scale storage systems, or distributed-systems performance and reliability work.
- Preferred experience with flow control, overload protection, admission control, adaptive throttling, load shedding, or backpressure.
- Preferred experience building object storage systems or similar backend storage engines.
- Preferred familiarity with distributed state-propagation protocols such as gossip protocols.
- Preferred familiarity with modern data lake architectures and query engines.
