Responsibilities
- Build backend services and APIs for search, map exploration, and local discovery experiences.
- Own well-scoped features from design through implementation, testing, rollout, and monitoring.
- Improve service performance, scalability, resilience, and reliability.
- Collaborate with backend, mobile, machine learning, product management, and data science teams.
- Support A/B tests, instrument features, and use customer-impact results to guide improvements.
- Write clean, well-tested code and participate in design and code reviews.
- Investigate production issues, improve observability, and support the operational health of services.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience, including building and shipping backend services.
- Proficiency in Go, Java, or a comparable backend programming language.
- Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, API design, and software testing.
- Experience with databases and distributed systems, including performance and reliability trade-offs.
- Ability to independently deliver well-scoped projects, communicate technical decisions, and collaborate effectively.
- Preferred: experience with search systems, personalization, recommendation systems, machine learning integrations, geospatial data, maps, product analytics, A/B testing, production operations, and consumer-facing products.
Benefits
- Base salary range of CAD $144,000 to CAD $160,000 per year.
- Eligible for Uber’s bonus program, potential equity awards, and other compensation.
