Responsibilities
- Own the platform strategy and technical direction for tooling, test infrastructure, and release automation used to ship services into CircleCI Server.
- Improve the installation, upgrade, reliability, and day-to-day operation of CircleCI Server in customer-operated environments.
- Own the Kubernetes-based Server foundation and the tooling used by internal teams and customers.
- Standardize Server observability on OpenTelemetry and build diagnostics that accelerate root-cause analysis.
- Partner with Support, Customer Engineering, customers, Product, and Engineering Management to resolve recurring issues and translate business goals into technical strategy.
- Mentor engineers and raise technical quality through design reviews, feedback, and technical leadership.
- Use AI-native engineering practices and evaluate how AI tools affect development workflows.
Requirements
- 8+ years building production backend and infrastructure systems.
- Strong experience with Go, API design, data modeling, distributed systems, and operational tooling.
- Deep experience designing, deploying, and debugging production systems on Kubernetes and Helm, including in air-gapped or restricted-network environments.
- Previous experience building internal platforms, tools, frameworks, or systems that improve engineering-team productivity.
- Experience shipping on-premises, self-hosted, enterprise-installed, or customer-operated software.
- Ability to make architecture decisions spanning multiple systems and teams while documenting tradeoffs in a business context.
- Experience providing technical leadership through mentoring, direct feedback, design discussions, and reviews.
- Daily use of AI tools and the ability to discuss what has been built with them, their impact, and their limitations.
